The Foolishness of God

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;

but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,

and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

1 Corinthians 1:18&19

The message of the cross is that Christ died for our sins. He was buried and resurrected to bring us new life.

The wise of this world cannot understand something so simple. Salvation is a free gift that one only has to accept in order to be given that new life.

This message is considered foolishness by those that are puffed up with their self-importance and their supposed wisdom.

But man’s wisdom is nothing compared to God’s wisdom. Man’s self-centered wisdom will one day be brought to nothing and all will see that the message of the cross is true and that their response to it will have everlasting consequences.

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;

and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

1 Corinthians 1:25

For All Have Sinned

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”   Romans 3:23

Adam and Eve were created perfect, without sin; but they chose to use the free-will that God gave them to sin against Him.  They chose to believe Satan’s lies and disregard God’s rules.

Because of their sin, each one of us has been born with a sinful, wicked nature that keeps us from God.  We have each used the freewill He gave us to make sinful choices.

Many people question why God allows so much pain and suffering in the world.

Yes, He could take the suffering out of the world, but then He would have to take us out of the world.    It is our sinful nature that has created the suffering that we now have to live with; and that will keep us from heaven when we die.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

God is holy and could not allow our sinful nature to go unpunished, could not allow us access to heaven. Yet, instead of just sending us to Hell, He chose to give us a way to change, to transform our sinful nature into a Godly, Christ-like nature that would redeem us and bring us back to Him.

We had to have a way to receive forgiveness for our sins and that way is through His Son, Jesus Christ. He loves us and wants all of us to seek Him and ask for forgiveness.

II Peter 3:9 tells us that “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise…but is longsuffering…not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

God loves us so much, He was willing that His only Son, Jesus, should take our penalty for our sins on Himself, giving us the gift of eternal life if we would just accept it.

And Jesus, knowing the physical pain that he would have to endure on that cross, knowing the agony He would experience while being separated from God, was willing to take all that on Himself for us.

How can we doubt a love like that?

John 3:16 says “For God so love the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
