What I Believe – Things Past

THINGS PAST

I believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God and was given by inspiration of God.  I believe it is to be used for correction and instruction; to equip man to do God’s work.  [II Timothy 3:16-17]

I believe that God exists in three Persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit [Isaiah 48:16; Matthew 3:16-17].  I believe these three are one God.  [John 1:1-2; Galatians 4:4-6; I John 5:7]

I believe God is eternal, from eternity past to eternity future  [Isaiah 48:16; 57:15; Psalm 90:2; John 1:1-2]

I believe that God created the universe [Genesis 1:1; John 1:3-4; Hebrews 2:10]

I believe that because of the sin of Adam and Eve, that all of mankind is born into a sinful nature.  [Genesis 3; Romans 5]

The penalty of that sin is death.  [Genesis 2:17; Romans 6:23]

Because of that sin, we are not righteous and fall short of God’s glory. [Romans 3:10, 12, 23]

I believe God is Holy [Leviticus 11:44-45; Psalm 99:5,9; I Peter 1:16]

Because God is holy, He cannot tolerate sin, which means we will not be accepted into Heaven without a payment for our sin. [Ephesians 5:5-6; Revelation 22:14-15]

I believe that without the shedding of blood their can be no atonement for sin. [Leviticus 17:11; Hebrews 9:22]

I believe that, because of His love for man, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to take the penalty for our sins on Himself. [John 3:16; Romans 5:8]

I believe that through the shedding of His blood, Jesus made the perfect atonement for our sin.  [Romans 3:24-25, 5:8; Hebrews 7:19-28I Peter 3:18]

I believe Jesus was born of a virgin. [Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1] I believe He lived a sinless life [II Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:26] as both God and man.  [Isaiah 9:6; Luke 3:38; John 1:1, 14 & 18; Galatians 4:4; Philippians 2:6; Hebrews 1:8; Hebrews 2:9-18]

I believe He was crucified, died and rose again the third day. [Matthew 27:1-28:19; Mark 15:1-16:20; Luke 23:1-24:53; John 19:1-20:31]

I believe that He later ascended into Heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. [Mark 16:19-20; Hebrews 1:3; I Peter 3:22]

The Foolishness of God

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;

but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,

and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

1 Corinthians 1:18&19

The message of the cross is that Christ died for our sins. He was buried and resurrected to bring us new life.

The wise of this world cannot understand something so simple. Salvation is a free gift that one only has to accept in order to be given that new life.

This message is considered foolishness by those that are puffed up with their self-importance and their supposed wisdom.

But man’s wisdom is nothing compared to God’s wisdom. Man’s self-centered wisdom will one day be brought to nothing and all will see that the message of the cross is true and that their response to it will have everlasting consequences.

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;

and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

1 Corinthians 1:25
