Part 3:

The dictionary defines Heaven as the perfect dwelling place after death.

The Bible defines Heaven as the place of everlasting bliss.

The inhabitants of Heaven are God (I Kings 8:30); Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:12 & 24); the Holy Spirit (Psalms 139:7 & 8); the Angels (Matthew 18:10); and God’s People (Hebrews 12:22 & 23).

In John chapter 3, Jesus makes it clear that those who have not accepted Him, the Son of God, as their Savior cannot enter Heaven.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (v. 18)

In Heaven there is no death (Luke 20:36); no flesh and blood (I Corinthians 15:50); no corruption (I Corinthians 15:42 & 50); no weariness (2 Corinthians 5:1-10); no sorrow (Revelation 7:17); no pain (Revelation 21:4); no curse (Revelation 22:3); no night (Revelation 22:5); no wicked people (Revelation 22:15); and no end (Revelation 22:5).

In Heaven there IS:

Joy (Luke 15:7 & 10); Rest (Rev 14:13) Peace (Luke 16:25) Righteousness (2 Peter 3:13) Service (Revelation 7:15) Reward (Matthew 5:11 & 12) Inheritance (1 Peter 1:14) Glory (Romans 8:17 & 18)

We have all heard the expression “Heaven on earth”. There really is no heaven on earth because earth is filled with fallen people. Earth is filled with sin and sickness and injury and death because we are fallen people, all born into sin with a sinful nature.

But Heaven, God’s Heaven, has none of those things because those who are there either have known no sin or have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ and have been forgiven their sin. God has accepted them as His children.

How do we become one of God’s children?

Romans chapter 8 tells us that those that are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (v. 14) Those that accept Jesus as Savior receive the Spirit of adoption and become the children of God. (v. 15 & 16)

To become one of God’s adopted children, you must accept the gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.

In my article You Must Be Born Again I explain how to become born again. If you want to know what it means to give your life to Jesus, please read the articles under the You Must Be Born Again heading above.

My prayer is that if you are seeking after a life filled with God’s peace, and a life strengthened by God’s Spirit, you will turn your life over to Him and receive His assurance of eternity spent in His presence.

The dictionary defines Hell as the place where the souls of people who are damned suffer eternal punishment after death, a place of suffering, a state or place of extreme pain and misery.

The Bible says that Hell is the place of eternal torment.

Matthew 25:41 describes Hell as everlasting fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels, verse 46 adds that those that go to Hell will go away into everlasting punishment.

In II Thessalonians 1:8 we read those that do not know God (unbelieving Gentiles) and those who do not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ (unbelieving Jews that knew about God but who rejected his Son) will be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord.

And Revelation 19:20 says Hell is a lake of fire, burning with brimstone.

We see from these verses what Hell is like, now we must consider the question of who will spend eternity there.

It is the place where the beast and the false prophet will go , and where those people will go that worship the beast and his image. Rev. 19:20; 14:11

It is also the place that the disobedient and the rejecters of Jesus Christ will go after the judgment. Romans 2:8,9; Matthew 10:15

Once in Hell, can a person leave? As the following verses show, the answer to that question is “No”.

The punishment of Hell will be eternal and unchangeable. Isaiah 32:14; Luke 16:22-31

The punishment will be bodily and in the soul. Matthew 5:29-30; Matthew 10:28

Inhabitants of Hell will cry for release, but will not be able to escape. Luke 16:24

Hebrews 9:27 says it is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.

The time to make a decision for or against Jesus Christ is now. You cannot change your destination once you die.

When I think of the descriptions for Hell, I see what resembles an active volcano, as all the old paintings show.

Would you want to spend eternity inside a volcano with no way of escape?

No?  Then why think of Hell as a place to party with all your friends?

Do you now think that Hell is not where you want to spend eternity?

How do we make sure that we do not go to Hell when we die?

By accepting the gift of salvation that God offers us through a believing knowledge and acceptance of His Son Jesus Christ.

Do you want to know how to do that? Read the articles under the You Must Be Born Again menu in the header above.
