The Foolishness of God

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;

but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,

and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

1 Corinthians 1:18&19

The message of the cross is that Christ died for our sins. He was buried and resurrected to bring us new life.

The wise of this world cannot understand something so simple. Salvation is a free gift that one only has to accept in order to be given that new life.

This message is considered foolishness by those that are puffed up with their self-importance and their supposed wisdom.

But man’s wisdom is nothing compared to God’s wisdom. Man’s self-centered wisdom will one day be brought to nothing and all will see that the message of the cross is true and that their response to it will have everlasting consequences.

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men;

and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

1 Corinthians 1:25

    • You and me too, Pastor J. Not sure if I have made this comment to you or not, but sometimes a thought comes into my head wondering what it would be like to not have that assurance, to be lost and adrift by myself, to not have the security of knowing I am His for eternity. I feel the beginnings of terror, panic, as if a black hole were open in front of me that I was going to fall into. Thank God I can pull myself out of that with the knowledge that I am one of His chosen, promised an eternity in His presence!
