Front of the House

My attempt at a homemade mud puddle – intended for butterflies, but they don’t like it.

Path to lawn

Anyone know what this is?  It came up all by itself and grew like crazy.  It is crowding out the marigolds and petunias, but I don’t want to pull it out.  It has tiny yellow flowers, but they do not open for very long and I can’t get a picture of them.  There are 6 of them that have come up around the house.

  1. lovely yard; enjoy! the “yellow flower” is: Purslane
    Type: Broadleaf annual
Size: To 6 inches tall and 2 feet wide
Where it grows: Dry, sunny landscape and garden areas
Appearance: Groundcover with fleshy, dark green leaves and small yellow flowers at the ends of the stems.
Control: Mulch to prevent it or use a pre-emergence herbicide in the spring; pull plants by hand or spot-treat with a nonselective post-emergence herbicide.

    • Thanks Jeanne. My husband likes the pulling it out avenue of control. I love the looks of it, but it is going to take over the entire area. I wonder if it will transplant to another area without dying?
