HOW WOULD YOU RESPOND?

I just found this comment posted to my God’s Tapestry post and awaiting approval:

Hi, I was raised Christian but am no longer born again, or Christian.  I’ve been struggling with severe masochism for the last year.  I’ve tried to return to God several times.  But when I start to feel His Presence & He begins to heal me, I get scared & start crying because as the masochist I am, I can’t accept help or pleasure, so I purposely separate myself from Him.  I know that God can love a masochist, but as a masochist, how can I accept God’s love?

How would you respond?

  1. This is deep Dru. My goodness. My heart aches for this person. First and foremost, pray and ask the Lord for words and guidance before you respond. Always leading someone in scripture gives them proof of God’s assuring love and freedom. If the person suffering is willing, may they go talk to someone at a local church for pastoral help. They need to know that they CAN be set free. Let them know that the enemy is trying to keep them suppressed and in bondage.

Share your love and extend prayers with them beyond this post if you are led to. This person is in serious need of our Savior. They need fellowship and prayer with believers who will surround them and lift them up and out of the pit of destruction. We must lean on the Holy Spirit to intercede. Please let me know if I can be of help. Until then, I will continue to pray for divine intervention.

    GOD IS ABLE.

  2. The attitude they are carrying around about themselves stems from some very deep issues in their life. If at all possible, they do need to find a Christian counselor who can work them through the many issues that they have buried.

Also, In many cases, this type of situation is made worse by evil spiritual influences in their lives.

If they are sincere about desiring a relationship with the Lord, suggest to them to listen to the Bible on CD throughout their day. The more exposure to the Word the more they will be able to think on that which is true about themselves and the Lord and the less power the evil influences will have on them.

This is not an easy issue. May the Lord bless.

    • Thank you Jeanne. Found your comment in the spam folder, again. I also questioned the validity of this comment, wondering if it was spam or a prank; but decided that I would prayerfully write an answer that will help in case it is a legitimate question. I would hate to have someone that is truly struggling not find advice that is sincerely needed. If it is questionable, maybe someone else will find it and read it and get benefit from my answer. I guess it is in the Lord’s hands now to work according to His will.

And I really need to do something about your comments going to spam all the time. 🙂

  3. “Hi, I was raised Christian but am no longer born again, or Christian.” This raises the question, does this person fully comprehend what being born again or being a Christian means? I agree with the previous comments with prayer being the first course of action followed by the truth with love and compassions.

  4. This is just a sneak peek of what can happen when you allow the devil to take control of your life. 1 Peter 5:8, reminds us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
