We are going to begin setting up a day (or days) to call our fellow bloggers to join us in fasting and prayer for a revival in the United States.  If you are not from the U.S. you are still welcome to join us to fast and pray for the church as a whole.

If you have not already done so, and would like to, you can join OneCry.com -a site for people wanting to join together in prayer for the country and the church.  Greg Holt from Believing God Today has set up a group at OneCry called Believers United for Revival which can be found here if you care to join.

OneCry.com has set up a united time of prayer every Tuesday from 8:00-8:30 PM Eastern Time.  There is a phone number on their site if you wish to participate in this prayer time.  Info can be found here.  Long distance rates are applied.

OneCry.com has a booklet of prayers called Praying for Spiritual Awakening.  In it there are prayers written out that can be prayed first for ourselves, then our families, our church and the nation.

This booklet can be downloaded onto your computer and printed out.   You need Adobe Reader to download and view the booklet.  If you do not have Adobe Reader, you can get it free here.

Because of this weekly prayer meeting, we should make sure that Tuesdays are included in our time of fasting and prayer.  I recommend that we make a concerted effort to come together with the prayer team at OneCry.com and pray with them, whether on the phone or not, between 8:00 and 8:30 on Tuesday evenings.

Our first day of fasting and prayer will be held the Tuesday after Resurrection Sunday, which is April 10th.  We will start out with just one day and then possibly fast longer in the future.

Depending on how long you decide to fast, it is recommended that you seek a physician’s approval first.  Being pre-diabetic, I have learned through experience that I cannot go completely without food for a day and will have to make modifications to my own fast.

Fasting is basically not eating for a certain period of time to bring ourselves in line with God.

Back in September I came across a devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley about fasting and prayer in which Dr. Stanley describes fasting as a step away from both food and activities to get rid of any distractions.

There are many different kinds of fasts; some for a day or two where you would eat a small meal the night before and then not eat again until the night the fast ends.  Some are water and juice fasts for a week or so.  Some are for longer periods – as much as forty days.

Fasting for a day would mean eating a light meal Monday night and then fasting through Tuesday.  End the fast Tuesday night with another light meal.  Resume normal eating Wednesday morning.  If you care to fast for longer, that is up to you.

Revival begins with our own hearts.

OneCry.com has a workbook that can be downloaded onto your computer and then printed out called “Draw A Circle” that outlines the idea of revival and prayer.

According to “Draw A Circle” ….

We humble ourselves before God and ask that He change us first.  We get honest about the sin in our lives, and repent from all sin.  We forgive those that have wronged or hurt us.  We align our life with God’s Word.  We pray fervently for revival around us — in the church and in the country.

I “Googled” ‘fasting and prayer’ and found these sites and articles.  There were others, if you would care to look further.

Please prayerfully consider joining us as we turn to God for revival, in our own hearts and in our beloved country.  If you decide to join us, please alert your readers so that they can come along side us in prayer also.

  1. Wow! This is something God has been pressing on my heart a LOT lately, so when I saw your post re-blogged by Jeanne, I was immediately “on alert”. I am going to check this out and (with God’s help) join you in prayer and fasting for our country. I have in my personal prayer life been prompted to repent of my own sins and of the sins of our country. I believe God is waiting for us to turn as a body to Him! He is stirring our hearts and moving us to this out of His great mercy and love! Thank you. Blessings in Christ, Natalie (wordprocessor)
